White House press secretary Jen Psaki is planning a move into news media according to “a source close to the matter,” CNN reported on Friday, 1 April.
Psaki, Press Secretary under President Joe Biden is leaving the prestigious position to join MSNBC in May to host a show on NBCUniversal’s streaming platform Peacock according to sources reported Axios.
Critics see the move as part of a larger trend of the political class leveraging prestigious positions in the public service to gain well paid jobs in the media pundit class.
Prominent corporate news outlets like MSNBC and CNN have previously come under some scrutiny for hiring former intelligence officials like former CIA Director John Brenan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper as pundits.
Some fear this trend serves to further political division and a culture of distrust in the media, with some pointing to the recent validation of the Hunter Biden Laptop story by outlets such as the New York Times and the Washington Post as proof that some media outlets are overly deferential to the current political establishment.
MSNBC have declined to comment on the matter, according to CNN.
